Owning a Business While Being a New Mom

Being a business owner and a new mom has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. When I first started this journey, I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I never anticipated just how much of an adjustment it would be. From sleepless nights to managing a business with “mom brain,” the struggles have been real—but so have the victories.

The Challenges of Juggling Both Worlds

One of the biggest hurdles I faced early on was my baby not taking a bottle. This meant I had to be physically present for every feeding, making it nearly impossible to dedicate long hours to my business. At the same time, my little one wasn’t sleeping well, so exhaustion became my new normal. Trying to balance work while running on little to no sleep tested my patience and mental stamina in ways I never imagined.

Time management became a whole new challenge. Before motherhood, I could focus on tasks for hours, knocking out projects and planning for the future. But with a newborn, my time was no longer my own. Simple things like responding to emails or managing appointments had to be done in short bursts whenever the baby napped (which wasn’t often). And let’s not forget “mom brain” – there were days I’d walk into a room and forget why I was there, let alone keep up with the demands of running a business!

The Turning Point

Now that my little one is almost two, things have started to shift. I can finally focus more on my business, work more hours, and get back into a rhythm that feels productive. She’s more independent, and with a more predictable routine, I can structure my days better.

I’ve also learned to set boundaries and prioritize. I now dedicate specific hours to work, ensuring that when I’m with my child, I’m fully present. It’s not always perfect, but it’s a huge improvement from where I started.

Another game-changer has been incorporating self-care into my routine. Taking time for myself—whether it’s reading, exercising, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee—has helped me regain focus and energy. Exercise has been particularly beneficial, giving me a much-needed mental and physical reset. Reading has also played a key role, whether it’s personal development books or something just for fun. These small but powerful habits have helped me feel more balanced and capable of handling both motherhood and business ownership.

The Power of a Support System

I couldn’t have done any of this without my incredible support system. Husband, family, friends, and even understanding clients have played a huge role in making this journey manageable. Whether it was someone stepping in to watch the baby for a few hours or simply offering words of encouragement on tough days, their support has been invaluable.

Looking Ahead

Owning a business while being a new mom has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The resilience and adaptability I’ve gained through this experience have not only made me a stronger business owner but also a more patient and understanding mother. As I continue to grow my business, I do so with the confidence that I can handle whatever comes my way—because if I can survive the newborn stage while running a business, I can survive anything!
